Just ask Paul Mastronardi. He's the fourth generation president of Mastronardi Produce, the largest greenhouse tomato operation in North America. His Leamington, Ont., plant cultivates tomatoes in their greenhouses.
Unlike traditional field tomatoes, yields from these regulated greenhouses can be 10 to 20 times greater per square foot. Baby tomato plants are suspended and left to mature for eight to ten weeks before being harvested and exported across Canada and Asia.
