This pioneering Quebec cider house is spearheading Canada's craft cider revival

Located in the Rougemont, Que., the Michel Jodoin cider house is one of many that dot the surrounding valley. Through the years, its sparkling rosé — known for its delicate bubbles and tender pink colour — has attracted the attention of French Champagne producers, and regularly cleans up at international cider competitions.

Owner Michel Jodoin credits their success to the Geneva apple. This rare variety keeps its vibrant red colour from skin to core.

"If I cut it in half, you'll see that it's entirely red on the inside," Jodoin says.

Jodoin's family has been growing apples in the area for over 100 years, and he's used this knowledge to become a pioneer in the sparkling cider industry. Everything from harvesting the apples to bottling the cider is done in-house to ensure quality.
