In this video from the CBC Archives, Megan Follows talks about being her own worst critic and why she believes Anne of Green Gables will live on forever.

Back in 1985, Megan Follows — the star of the Anne of Green Gables CBC mini-series that preceded the current reiteration — spoke to CBC about how she could never tire of seeing herself as the legendary Anne Shirley. Even though she wasn't always comfortable watching herself on screen, she knew just how special the project was as they were making it.

"The story itself is one that can be heard forever," the then 17-year-old says in the above video from the CBC Archives. "I'm very proud of the work that I did and that everybody did, and I think we have a lot to show for it. So I think it's great."

With Canada Reads 2017 starting next week and last week's launch of the new CBC series Anne, we're honouring this classic and beloved Canadian story from the great Lucy Maud Montgomery, which clearly stands the test of time.

Check out Episode 2 of CBC's new series Anne, which airs this Sunday at 8pm (8:30pm NT) on CBC Television.
