Canada Council Digital Originals supports artists with $5,000 pandemic relief grants

In the spring, the Digital Originals initiative offered $5,000 micro-grants from the Canada Council. The idea was for artists to re-think their work for online sharing, whether that meant digitizing an existing work or creating an entirely new one.

This summer, CBC Arts teamed up with the Canada Council for the Arts to help artists create work and showcase it during the pandemic. 

In the spring, the Digital Originals initiative offered $5,000 micro-grants from the Canada Council. The idea was for artists to re-think their work for online sharing, whether that meant digitizing an existing work or creating an entirely new one. Artists stepped up with audio plays, documentaries, virtual reality soundscapes, digitized poetry magazines and a lot more.

More than 1,000 artists were awarded grants, and we're featuring a selection of those projects this month on CBC Arts.
