Broadway's KPOP was a huge — but short-lived — success

KPOP was a groundbreaking musical that received Tony nominations for its score, costumes and choreography. But it abruptly closed after only two weeks. Composer Helen Park talks about the show's short-lived but meaningful run on Broadway.

As the first Broadway production about a Korean story, written by Korean artists, with a predominantly Asian cast, KPOP the musical was groundbreaking.

It was nominated for three Tony Awards, including best original score, best costume design and best choreography. But the musical abruptly closed after only two weeks.

Composer Helen Park joined Commotion guest host Talia Schlanger to talk about the show's short-lived but meaningful run on Broadway, and how its cancellation has impacted diverse storytelling.
