There's a new series premiering on CBC Gem called For the Culture. It's the brainchild of — host, writer and executive producer — Amanda Parris.

Parris is known for quite a few things. She received a Governor General Award for her book adaptation of her play The Other Side of The Game. She's the creator of the web comedy series Revenge of the Black Best Friend, and she was the host of CBC's Exhibitionists.

For The Culture is her deep dive into the stories and issues Black people across the diaspora are talking about  — and why those stories matter to them.

The entire series is now available on CBC Gem.

Parris joins host Elamin Abdelmahmoud to talk about what she learned in the process of making For the Culture.
