It's not often you hear artists saying nice things about big corporate design, but Vancouver illustrator and designer Tylor Macmillan is inspired by the intense effectiveness of the graphical communication in major corporate logos — despite what he calls the "schemes" behind these designs intended to appeal to people.

"When I see something that's obviously really successful visually and it gets the name or the brand or the idea across in just one image quick — I'm stoked."

Why this artist is inspired by corporate logos.

Macmillan has some favs: "I love corporate branding like RBC, McDonald's. The old Dairy Queen logo I thought was so sick."

"Maybe they're not art or whatever" — but he incorporates what he learns from them into his own work. "Definitely the work that I do is like a lot of this stuff. I don't know if I would call [it] logos. This is illustration and design, but it's inspired by branding and logos for sure. It's logo-ish."
