Take a deep dive into aAron Munson's photograph of a room frozen in time (and in ice)
Our recent video about aAron Munson told the story of the year his father spent in the 1970s at a remote weather station called Isachsen. While the story is very much about isolation and loneliness, it's also about a son finding a way to connect with his father's younger self — and a way of turning those dark feelings into a powerful exhibition.
For Munson, the experience was a revelation of the difficult experience his father went through, which included depression and thoughts of suicide. "He called this place home for 12 months — I was ready to leave after a week," he says.
In this video — part of our Story Behind the Photo series — you get a look inside one of the images that forms part of Munson's exhibition Isachsen. Through this photograph, Munson empathizes with his father's year in the cold and feels the full weight of the power of nature.
