How Bruce Lee kicked down the doors for the creator of Kim's Convenience
Ins Choi, creator of Kim's Convenience, tells us how a martial arts film changed his view of the world
Actor and martial artist Bruce Lee didn't just play the lead role in the 1973 film Enter the Dragon — he also played a pivotal role in actor/writer Ins Choi's life.
When Choi saw Enter the Dragon growing up, Lee was the first Asian actor that he had ever seen not only playing a lead English-speaking role but also "kicking ass" doing so. Fast-forward a few decades later, and Choi is now the one breaking down barriers with his award-winning play and the upcoming CBC TV series Kim's Convenience, which centres on a Korean-Canadian family.
In this video, Choi sits down with CBC Arts to tell us about how Bruce Lee's performance in Enter The Dragon changed his view of the world.
