'Mother Earth is just another woman he calls a liar': One poet's resistance on Inauguration Day
Sheila "Jubilee" Brewster says her Canadian citizenship does not disqualify her compassion
"12 women have accused Donald Trump of sexual assault," says poet Sheila "Jubilee" Brewster. "But he also denies climate change, so...I guess you could say Mother Earth is just another woman he calls a liar."
Brewster is the latest poet to question Trump in the CBC Arts video series Poetic License. She has been deeply disturbed by the election and sees no place in her Christian values for the newly-sworn in President — and those worries extend across the border. "My Canadian citizenship does not disqualify me from having a sense of compassion," she says, "of concern and frustration at the popular endorsement of men who offer threats like suggestions."
She also has some strong her words for Trump supporters whose commonalities with her are a little too close for comfort.
"Don't tell me to breathe quietly — because it scares me how much we have in common. Many of you look like me, were raised like me: white, female, Christian...I will pray for America, but I will not pretend that I see Jesus in the man you elected."
