Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis: Living and working together on This Changes Everything

Husband and wife duo Avi Lewis and Naomi Klein are making their mark as social activists in more ways than one. Klein is the author of three bestselling books tackling corporate capitalism, globalization, and most recently the environment in This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate. The book was published in 2014 and won the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Non-fiction.

Lewis is a longtime journalist and director of the documentary version of This Changes Everything, which was made concurrently as Klein wrote the book.

Klein is the author of three bestselling books tackling corporate capitalism, globalization, and most recently the environment in This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate. The book was published in 2014 and won the Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Non-fiction.

Lewis is a longtime journalist and director of the documentary version of This Changes Everything (his second doc), which was made concurrently as Klein wrote the book.

Both book and film are the result of five years of intense travel and research. Together with their young son, the couple navigated nine countries in over four years, stopping everywhere from South India to the Alberta oil sands.

CBC Arts caught up with Klein and Lewis at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival where the film premiered, to discuss their commitment to their ideals and to each other.

This Changes Everything opens in theatres across Canada on October 9.
