This Toronto fashion designer is reusing discarded textiles to show us how much we waste
The collection weighs 81 pounds — the same amount the average North American throws away each year
"I think that if you do have a voice, and you see something wrong in the world as an artist, you have to point it out. It's the only way it's going to change."
That's the hope behind fashion designer Evan Biddell's new collection "VV by EB" which just debuted at Toronto Women's Fashion Week. The concept of "VV by EB" is that the entire collection is made from discarded clothes, ultimately weighing exactly 81 pounds.
"That's how much each North American throws away every year in clothing and textile waste," Biddell says. "Which is crazy. So the challenge is to make a collection that is that amount of weight so you can really look at how much we're throwing away."
