Here's a toolkit for using Canada Reads in your classroom
Calling all secondary school teachers! Do you love Canada Reads and wish you could share your passion with students? You can now find Canada Reads content on Curio.ca, CBC's streaming service designed with Canada's educational community in mind.
The Canada Reads collection on Curio.ca includes teacher guides for all five of this year's contenders, videos featuring this year's shortlisted authors, and discussion questions and suggested activities for how to activate Canada Reads in any secondary school classroom. We'll be adding more material as we get closer to the debates, all of which will be accessible to Curio.ca subscribers and non-subscribers alike.
You can check out the guide at curio.ca/canadareads.
Curio.ca launched in 2013 to meet the digital learning needs of school boards, government ministries, universities, colleges and cégeps and public libraries across the country. It features award-winning content from CBC, spanning from radio and television documentaries to news, drama, and children's programming.
This year's Canada Reads contenders are:
- Mozhdah Jamalzadah, defending The Boat People by Sharon Bala
- Tahmoh Penikett, defending American War by Omar El Akkad
- Greg Johnson, defending Precious Cargo by Craig Davidson
- Jeanne Beker, defending Forgiveness by Mark Sakamoto
- Jully Black, defending The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline
The debates take place March 26-29, 2018. You can listen on CBC Radio, watch on CBC TV or stream them live online at CBC Books.
