Elena Ferrante's next novel, The Lying Life of Adults, to be published in Canada in June 2020

Publisher Europa Editions released a short excerpt of the Italian writer's novel — her first in five years — in September.

A new book by Elena Ferrante, pseudonymous author of the celebrated Neapolitan Novels is writing a new novel.

The Lying Life of Adults will be released in Canada in June 2020.

The English edition will be translated by Ann Goldstein, who also worked on Ferrante's Neapolitan series.

Best-selling Italian author Elena Ferrante's work is adored by millions around the world. The Current speaks to Ann Goldstein, the woman tasked with translating the words into English and tells us why the mysterious storyteller revels in her anonymity.

The novel is Ferrante's first novel in five years. The book will come out first in Italy on Nov. 7, 2019.

Europa Editions released a short teaser from the book on Twitter in September.

The Italian writer, whose identity remains anonymous, gained millions of fans after publishing her four-part series set in 1950s Naples.

The books tell the story of a decades-long friendship between two women, Lenú and Lila.

She was longlisted for the Man Booker International Prize in 2016 for The Story of the Lost Child, the final book in the Neapolitan Novels series. 

The books were adapted into an 2018 television series, My Brilliant Friend, for HBO.
