The CBC Short Story Prize is open between Sept. 1 and Nov. 1
The 2025 CBC Short Story Prize will be accepting submissions between Sept. 1 and Nov. 1 at 4:59 p.m. ET (1:59 p.m. PT).
You can submit your original, unpublished short fiction for a chance to win $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, a two-week writing residency at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and have your story published on CBC Books.
Four finalists will win $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and have their story published on CBC Books.

Vancouver writer Kate Gunn won the 2024 CBC Short Story Prize for her story Old Bones.
The CBC Literary Prizes have been supporting and celebrating Canadian writers since 1979. Other past winners include Michael Ondaatje, Michael Winter and Frances Itani.
