E3 News: Nintendo confirms Mario was punching the bricks but stupid Luigi was hitting them with his head

LOS ANGELES, CA—Well there's that question solved after all these years.

In an exclusive announcement at this year's E3 event (Electronic Entertainment Expo), Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishama finally addressed a question that has been posed to the gaming giant for decades: in the Super Mario Bros. games, was Mario hitting the bricks with his fist or his head?

The answer proved more complex than anyone had imagined.

"Well, it's a little bit of both. If you mean, specifically, Mario, the answer is his fist. I realize the graphics are relatively small in those games and of course cruder than we have now achieved, but it's absolutely his fist."

"Unfortunately his brother did not learn from his example."

Kimishama explained that Luigi insisted on slamming into the bricks with his head, because that's what it looked like Mario was doing.

"I don't know why he never asked him. Just shy I guess. Classic second fiddle."

Asked whether Luigi had suffered any long-term effects from this habit, Kimishima said, "None that we have ever noticed, though he would have a bad headache for the rest of the day each time. He would be sitting there in agony while Mario merely had an icepack on his hand. Frankly I blame Mario for not telling him. I don't know what his thinking was there."

At press time, Luigi was finally informed of the way Mario had been breaking the bricks and became so furious he turned invincible for more than 20 seconds.
