Emoji Movie to boast 138 more facial expressions than average Keanu Reeves movie

According to early reviews, the face-centric film has set a record for facial expressions, with 141, or precisely 138 more than the average Keanu Reeves film.

HOLLYWOOD, CA—The Emoji Movie, a film produced by Sony Pictures Animation, set for release into theatres continent-wide tomorrow, is perhaps Hollywood's most blatant attempt yet at capturing a current fad—in this case, the very images that people send back and forth to each other every day.

But it will also be notable for pushing the envelope in another area. According to early reviews, the face-centric film has set a record for facial expressions, with 141, or precisely 138 more than the average Keanu Reeves film.

"This film may not blow you away with its story," wrote Bob Willison in The Newark Star-Ledger. "But what it will astonish you with is the sheer amount of emotions a face can convey, which will be a true source of amazement for anyone who has mainly seen the films Speed, Johnny Mnemonic, or The Matrix, for instance."

"In the first scene alone, a dialogue between Hi-5, the hand emoji, Smiler, a smiley emoji, Gene, a 'meh' emoji, and of course the poop emoji, four different facial expressions are highlighted. This surpasses the full number of facial expressions conveyed in all the films Reeves has made combined: our hero's placid, unchanging expression, the villain's angry, wild-eyed expression, and of course the one Sandra Bullock does; she's great, but it is often just the one," wrote Willison.

"So even if The Emoji Movie doesn't break the box office, folks can rest assured that they're looking at an evening of looking at a lot of looks. And then they can get back to re-watching Point Break."

At press time, Reeves was rumoured to have been cast as the lead in the sequel to The Emoji Movie.
