Woman enters third day of trying to decode mother's text
BURNABY, B.C.—Once again, a simple "hi hon! iu ever grab the smpl? luv mom xo" has thrown a young woman's life into turmoil.
Rebecca Thatcher, a 24-year-old sandwich artist, has now spent 52 hours trying to decode her mother's most recent text, which consisted wholly of those words.

"The first part I got easily," said Thatcher, speaking in front of a series of screenshots posted to her wall and connected with string. "Hi hon. Then it quickly gets out of control."
"Does the next word mean 'you' or 'I'? Because 'iu' suggests both, equally. She means one. But which one does she mean?"
"Of course I wrote her back right away. I did what I usually do: 'I have no idea what you just said. What does this mean?' And of course she never wrote back."
"I tried to play it cool, didn't call her or anything. But I saw her that evening and said, 'Hey, what did your text mean earlier?' And she said she didn't remember it at all. I smiled and tried to relax, but showed her the text on my phone ten minutes later, to which she replied, 'Ohhh. No I don't think I sent that one.'"
"'I don't think I sent that one'??? What does that even mean? That's what sent me into a real tailspin. I've just been walking around, asking people what they think the smpl is. They don't know. But my mom says she doesn't either and why am I so worried about it?"
"Why am I so worried about it???"
At press time, Thatcher was at the end of her rope and almost ready to admit to preferring one of her day's "ok." texts at this point.
