TORONTO, ON—On June 19th at 9:26 am, Melissa McNally and her husband Tom welcomed a healthy new Instagram feed to the world. Weighing in at a little over 200 followers, the new bundle of joy has already garnered comments like "She looks just like you!" and "I get it: you had a kid."

Friends of McNally were ecstatic that they would be force-fed photos at a rate that can only be described as "feed monopolizing."

While it's been a new experience for McNally, the newborn is teaching friends a thing or two about babies as well.

"It's incredible," says close friend Matt Mistele. "I didn't know that babies age so rapidly that you need to take four photos a day. I learned something today."

Mere hours after giving birth, McNally was overwhelmed with the outpouring of "likes" she has received.

However, this phenomenon isn't unique. A new study from the Centre for Perpetual Validation has found that friends like baby photos because they genuinely care, and not at all because they know you need affirmation that your baby is cute.

Shortly after the birth, newly minted grandmother Rebecca McNally signed up for Instagram. "It's tremendous. By using Instagram, I get to see my grandchild as much as if I was living in the same house. That's probably what it was created for."

Immediately after, Rebecca was found using Instagram's search function to look for a peach cobbler recipe she saw on Rachael Ray.

McNally says that her new feed should serve as an inspiration to either those who want to have a baby, or those who feel pressure to have a baby but aren't ready.

"Parenthood is difficult," says McNally. "But if I can use my Instagram account to make it seem like it's easy and I enjoy it, then I've done my job."
