In 1972 the best hockey players from Canada and the USSR faced off against each other in an eight game match that changed the sport forever, a story told in the new documentary series, Summit 72.
In honour of the event, we outfitted junior league hockey players from U16 Toronto Attack and U18 North York Storm with the vintage gear used by the pros in 1972 to find out how it compared to modern gear.
Players today enjoy equipment that their 1972 predecessors would barely recognize: it's lighter, more comfortable and engineered for maneuverability.
