From Paris to Toronto and everywhere in between, this summer has seen the rise of the "elevated" picnic, shall we say. The trendy activity-du-jour is the favoured way for foodies to get together with friends and enjoy the warmer weather. But once you've whipped up your mains, sides and salads, you'll need a few more things to take your picnic to the next level. Below, we've rounded up all the essentials to make your picnic the event of the summer.

The Basket

First things first, you need a basket. This classically woven version makes the art of picnicking in style easy with pre-packed plates, cutlery, glasses and a corkscrew. Everything included is dishwasher safe so cleanup afterwards is a cinch. Toss in your food, and you're ready to go.

The Blanket

Choose a blanket in gingham for real picnic vibes. This double-sided print and denim version is not only waterproof, but it also has ample room for lounging and laying out the impressive spread that you've packed. Best of all, this blanket was also ethically handmade in Canada.

The Cold Drink

According to Vogue-backed Picnics in Paris founder, Justin Kent, a refreshing cocktail is the pièce de résistance of any picnic, and Le Grand Fizz makes for an elevated take on the vodka soda. If you happen live in La Belle Province, where sipping spiked bevies in the park is totally legal, start with a base of ice, then add the vodka with a splash of freshly squeezed lime and top off with elderflower liqueur and chilled soda. If you're outside of Quebec, never fear, tasty mocktails will do the trick, too. Whatever your elixirs of choice, make sure to pour them into S'well bottles to keep them cold all night, and expect your guests to come back for refills.

The Pillows

These decorative pillows are all you need to take comfort outdoors to the next level. Plus, it doesn't hurt that they're affordable and right on brand for the outdoor event. Stock up on multiple, and you can even give them out as cute keepsakes for guests to hold onto at the end of the night.

The Rosé

Because everyone is saying, "yes way rosé!" this season, you definitely want a version of the trendy flavor. Sugarfina's box of artisan candies, which comes packed with rosé-inspired gummy bears and rosettes, offers a sweets twist on summer's #1 beverage. It's all the sweet you want without the hangover.

The Candle

Bugs can end a party really fast, so keeping them away is essential. Try lighting a citronella candle so you and your guests can stay out all night without the worry. This white and blue version by Sunnylife will light up your picnic when the sun goes down, all while repelling insects.

The Music Player

Where's the fun in a picnic without music to set the vibe for the night? This portable stereo is designed to give you the best sound quality on the go. It's optimized to work with an iPhone, computer or even an Apple Watch, so playing your fave playlists by Bluetooth has never been more convenient. Its sleek design will only enhance your setup.

The Sunglasses

There will always be guests who forget their sunglasses, so why not make sure you've got them covered? Pick up a selection of affordable and cool sunglasses for everyone to choose from. Make sure to get different styles and colours so guests can have fun trying them on and pairing them with their outfits.

The Camera

Clearly your picnic will be Instagram-worthy, but having a Polaroid on-hand for everyone to use is a cool throwback. The new version of the old-school camera comes in fun colours, and has a selfie mirror. After snapping and printing pics, you can create a spread to upload to social, and let guests take them home to remember the event.
