Season 2, Episode 1: Cake Week
The Great Canadian Baking Show returned with 10 of the country's most passionate bakers. They entered the iconic white baking tent to face Cake Week: a series of challenges designed to reveal their skills and knowledge.
After judges Rochelle Adonis and Bruno Feldeisen carefully sampled and deliberated the finished baking, they declared the first Star Baker of the season...and ask the first baker to leave the tent.
SPOILER ALERT! IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY WATCHED THE SHOW, GO DO THAT NOW.
There are spoilers below this line.
According to Julia Chan, this week's technical bake was supposed to come out "light and fluffy, like a teacup Pomeranian."
But unfortunately for the bakers, the orange chiffon cake recipe they were given was light on instructions.
In the end, Andrei took the crown and was named Season 2's first Star Baker, thanks to a birthday cake that was fit for a queen.
For his signature bake, Devon took a clever approach to a classic fruit upside down cake, making a mango gingerbread upside down sandwich cake. If you want to make it, the recipe is below.
