Party Piñatas: DIY rainbow gender reveal piñata

Throwing a baby shower or gender reveal party in the near future? Our DIY rainbow piñata is a cute and creative way to announce what you're having to friends and family. While the trend of gender reveals have been met with some criticism, if you are planning on gathering the ones you love to share this news, we can't think of a better way to do it than with an interactive activity that gets the whole party in on the fun! Plus, it's super easy to make. Follow along with our step by step instructions to create this fun, festive piñata that will make for a memorable reveal.
Here's what you'll need:
- 2 large pieces of cardboard (plus more for side panels, depending on size)
- Marker
- X-acto knife
- Tape
- Tissue paper (in colours of choice)
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Stuffing and goodies for inside of piñata
- Twine/string for hanging
Here's how to do it:
- Draw the shape of a rainbow on your cardboard and cut it out.
- Trace and repeat on a second piece of cardboard.
- Cut out a long piece of cardboard that's 1.5" tall, for side panels. Repeat.
- Roll up your side panels to make a spiral shape.
- Attach side panels to first rainbow cut out with tape.
- Fill piñata with goodies.
- Make a loop on the top of the piñata using twine, for hanging.
- Close piñata by taping your second rainbow cut out to the open side.
- Prepare decorative frills by cutting slits in tissue and wrapping paper.
- Decorate the exterior of your piñata by layering and gluing on frills.
- Cut long streamers out of tissue and wrapping paper and glue to the ends of your rainbow.
- Hang and enjoy!
