Cozy may be key when it comes to winter attire, but this DIY floral collar breathes fresh air into any wardrobe. Lady Hayes shared this super pretty and incredibly easy instructional with us, and just in time. This floral collar will not only elevate a muted ensemble, but it adds a desperately needed hint of spring to our style.

This DIY comes together in about 15 minutes and uses inexpensive materials for a piece you can wear for years to come. We can imagine it making a wedding outfit just that much more special, or simply pairing it with a white collared shirt, skinny jeans and mules. Here's how to to make your own straight from the flower maven, herself.

What you'll need:

  • 3 Focal point flowers (small peonies in this case)
  • 4 Smaller accent flowers
  • 6 Small filler flowers (Wax flowers and Queen Anne's lace shown here)
  • A few sprigs of green leaves
  • 1 Sheet white felt
  • 2-3 Feet white ribbon
  • Glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • 1 Sheet of paper
  • Pen or pencil
  • Scissors
  • Pliers
  • Lighter

Directions:

1. Trace a circle on a piece of paper (approx-3 inches in diameter) and cut out with scissors — a small drinking glass may work.

2. Now place the paper shape on your felt, trace with pen and cut out.

3. Measure 2-3 feet of ribbon and cut. This will be the piece that ties the collar around your neck. Lay your ribbon just below the centre of your felt circle and make sure both ends of the ribbon are equal lengths from the circle. Glue in place.

4. Now glue your felt circle in half creating a semi-circle. This will serve as your base.

5. Now for the fun part! Lets begin with our greens! Trim two small pieces and glue them to either edge of your felt semi-circle.

6. Remove flowers from the stem; you'll only need the bloom itself.

7. Glue in your larger flowers first, and now add some smaller flowers to fill in the gaps.

8. Add some filler flowers like wax flowers and small Queen Anne's lace.

9. Keep about an inch of stem on your filler flowers so they stick out and add height.

10. Cut the ribbon ends on a 45 degree angle and lightly burn ribbon ends with a lighter. This will prevent fraying.

11. Secure your floral collar around your neck by tying a bow at the back and tuck under shirt collar. Time to show off your masterpiece! Can't you hear them? "Where did you get that?!" That's when you reply, "Actually, I made it!"
