As far as accessories go, bags and shoes usually top the food chain. But that's about to change. The belt is this season's statement accessory to finish off any outfit. Belts appeared on almost every runway for SS18, and were especially big at shows like Balenciaga, Chanel and Off-White. They aren't just about your standard leather and buckle anymore either. The takeaway for this season is that the more head-turning, the better. Below, we've assembled a guide to the top three belt trends you need to know about for summer: chain-linked, logo and workman.

The chain belt

'80s trends have been huge this year, and the chain belt is another to add to the list. It calls to mind vintage Versace in all the right ways, but the style still has modern appeal. For spring, we saw the trend pick up at Balenciaga with coloured plastic key fobs hanging from the chains. It's a trend to invest in now, because thanks to appearances on the Fall 2018 runways at Moschino, Louis Vuitton and Nicopanda we know it's just about to get bigger. And when it comes to styling, practically anything goes. Try it slung low on the hips with skirt or trousers or wear it to cinch your waist in a dress. Surely this trend will also work over top any jacket.

The workman belt

With this style, edgy is the way to go. Choose a bright colour like yellow, blue or pink, loop it through jeans, and let the front-end dangle from belt loops. Pair it up with a white tee, leather jacket or blazer, and a pair of cool boots. Simple is key here as far as the rest of your outfit goes; allow the belt to have its moment front and centre. Wear one and cue the spotlight.

The logo belt

Perhaps the biggest of three trends is the logo belt trend. The style came back into play a few seasons ago when the Gucci belt (courtesy of Alessandro Michele) became one of the most covetable accessories on the market. The appeal is simple really. It's a great way to get in on the logo trend without overdoing it, and it's the perfect accessory to instantly anchor any minimalist outfit. We recommend wearing it with denim, overtop blazers and breezy summer dresses. Buckle up, the options are seemingly endless, and oh so good.
