Recipe: French Onion Tart
Invite your friends over for brunch as an excuse to make this tart. This French Onion Tart is easy and cheesy, what’s not to like?
Ingredients
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 2-3 tbsp olive oil
- 6 large onions, thinly sliced
- 6 eggs
- ¾ cup homogenized milk
- 1 sprig thyme, picked and minced
- 2 cups Gruyere cheese, grated, divided
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Extra picked thyme (for garnish)
Preparation
Slightly roll out thawed puff pastry. Place in pie shell or pop out tart tin. Press into bottom and sides. Chill until ready to fill.
Heat a large frying pan on medium heat. Add a splash of olive oil and sliced onions. Stir every few minutes for 35-60 minutes or until nicely browned and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Transfer to tart shell.
Is a large bowl whisk eggs, milk, thyme and one cup of cheese together with a pinch of salt and pepper. Pour egg mixture into tart shell on top of onions.
Bake at 400F for 30 minutes. Take out of oven after 30 minutes and top with remaining cup of cheese. Broil for 3-5 minutes until cheese is bubbly and browned.
Garnish with picked thyme.
