Everyone thinks the Kardashians invented contouring — but drag queens have been doing it for decades with ease. For makeup novices, however, faking chiseled cheekbones and perfecting a balanced blend isn't simple. One wrong move, and you could end up out for dinner with a bright white line down the middle of your face. Yikes!

Luckily, the lovely JuiceBoxx joined us in the studio to give everyone at home a run down of the essentials when it comes to contour. Check out the tutorial above, remember these easy steps below, and you'll be a pro in no time!

1. Picking the right colours and tools

Start by prepping your skin with moisturizer and concealer to even out your skin tone. Then, it's all about finding the right colour. The one you go with should be about two to four shades darker than your skin tone. Matte is best if you're a beginner, because it's easier to blend. You'll also need 3 brushes — one to add the colour, one to add the highlighter, and one for blush.

2. Hollowing out the cheeks

Find the hollow of your cheek to add the darker colour. This will slim your face and make your cheekbones pop. Start at the ear and move toward the mouth — but not too close. And then, most importantly, blend! We don't want to see lines or streaks.

3. Add contour to hairline and jawline

If you want to make your forehead appear shorter or get rid of a double chin, add a bit of contour to these places.

4. Highlights

Now that you're perfectly chiseled, it's time to add the highlight. You're adding the lightest colour in the kit to the highest parts of your face. The lighter colour attracts the light, making these parts of your face stand out. So, you can highlight the top of the cheekbone, down the bridge of your nose, above the eyebrow, and on the cupid's bow.

5. Blush and setting powder

Finally, your last step is adding a bit of rouge to the apples of your cheek and blending everything together one last time with a setting powder.
