Set the ultimate dinner table with these chic accents
From casual dining to glamorous entertaining, the table can add ambiance to any meal. We wanted to take our table settings beyond the usual fork on the left, spoon on the right and went for a fun tablescape that works for any dinner party. Steven showed us how to set the ultimate dinner table with a mix of modern and traditional for a fun upscale dinner party – cocktail dress required! All of our dining furniture is from Elte.
Menu on a mirror
This is a small way to add an extra touch to your dinner party. Simply write the menu on the mirror with a chalkboard pen.
Runners & napkins
We used runners and Greek key napkins made from fabric from Tonic Living. These additions add texture and some beautiful pattern to our table setting.
Centrepiece
Add a beautiful centrepiece to the table with some inexpensive cherry blossoms. It adds height and drama to any table. It's tall enough so it will rise above your guests and not block conversation. It can also be moved to the hutch once dinner commences!
Chargers
For chargers, think outside of the box! We used gorgeous candle dishes from Ikea.
Mixing Plates
It's OK to mix your traditional fine china with more modern plates. We mixed a grosgrain with a modern faux horn patchwork salad plate, all from Hudson's Bay.
Cutlery
Re-think the colour of your cutlery. We introduced silver in the plates and gold in the cutlery. Mixing metals adds additional interest to the table.
Glassware
We did a lot of mixing when it came to the glassware. Don't be afraid to play with different shapes and styles when it comes to your glasses – they add sparkle to the table.
A touch of floral
We created mini cloches with stemless wine glasses. Once your guests sit down for dinner, they can place the cloches down the center of the table as centrepieces!
Steven challenged our hosts to set the perfect dining table for two. We gave them one minute on the clock to see what they could come up with.
Andrea's
Jessi's
Shahir's
In the end, Steven chose Jessi's table as the ultimate winner.
