Six energy boosting tips for different times of day
Here’s what a doctor recommends to keep you going
It can be hard to keep your energy up throughout the day. Thankfully, there are many things you can do to give yourself an energy boost at different points in the day. Diet and exercise play a big role in this and help to keep you focused and going strong. Dr. Vivien Brown stopped by The Goods to give us some tips
Early Morning Boost
There are a few key things you can do to start the day off right. Meditating is a great way to wake up. Taking a few moments to yourself to set yourself up for the day and getting in the right mindset to tackle your goals can make all the difference. Whether it's getting the kids off to school or flourishing at work, you need to start with yourself first. Drinking lots of water to start the day will help your body's metabolism. It's all about easing into your day and paying attention to your body.
Morning Boost
Nutritionists say to eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Protein is vital for keeping your energy up throughout the day. A breakfast like eggs, cottage cheese, whole grains, and fruit will help you be at your best throughout the day. And eating the whole egg, including the yolk, will boost your B12 as well.
Mid-Morning Boost
Everyone needs a mid-morning snack. Yogurt with some flax seeds and chia is a great snack that will boost your energy and keep you feeling good. Drinking plenty of water is necessary for our bodies throughout the day but especially at this time.
Noon Boost
By midday, we need to get up and move. Many people keep a set of running shoes under their desks at work, and go for a brisk walk at lunch time. It can only be 30 minutes, but just getting out there, getting your body moving, and breathing in the fresh air makes a world of difference with your energy levels. A smoothie with protein, fruits and vegetables is also great at this time. It will help you feel full, and get you all the nutrients you need to get through the back half of your day.
Mid-Afternoon Boost
By mid-afternoon, many people feel a slump and the easiest way to get your energy up is a sugar craving. However, when you do this, you will crash. Taking some time to yourself, some time to breathe, energize with green tea and maybe even meditate right at your desk: all better-for-you fixes.
Evening Boost
It's very important that you slow yourself down at the end of the day. This is not a good time to exercise as it will get your energy levels up and affect the quality of your sleep. Doing things like reading, knitting, taking with your spouse or friend—anything you find relaxing—is a great way to unwind.
