A look at Little Oak Bar: The small but mighty spot worth seeing in Halifax
True to its name, this stunning oak-clad spot is a gem on the waterfront.
Quantity over quality, or quality over quantity? It's an age-old debate, but one stunning spot on Halifax's waterfront is tipping the scales in favour of the latter. True to its name, the intimate space that is Little Oak Bar is small, with seating for just 34 guests, yet sprawling wood accents flow throughout. In fact, anywhere you choose to sit at Little Oak, you will find yourself surrounded by oak in a bright, clean palette that is at once warmly comforting and refreshingly modern.
The single room is home to the bar, dining tables and one cozy and coveted booth.
From any vantage point in the room you can also peek through tinted windows into the wine cellar, home to a carefully curated wine list with plenty of local options.
Just like the space, the menus are small and thoughtful. On the playful cocktail list, you'll find options like the Lamb's Ear for, as the menu suggests, "when you're dreaming of the beach, but surrounded by snow."
There is a snack menu with something for everyone – including a wealth of seafood options, because we are in Nova Scotia after all. Beyond snacks, you can also find a daily menu of small plates for bigger appetites.
A proud member of Taste of Nova Scotia, Little Oak knows the importance of working with locally sourced ingredients. If you're craving a seasonal taste of the Maritimes, chef Dan Purvis offered up the recipe for his stunning dish, Cured Rainbow Trout with Curried Carrot Purée, Buttermilk Sauce and Wheat Berries.
