'Dignity is the enemy': Brent Butt looks back on his Junos Kiss outfit
This episode of My Junos Moment revisits Butt's 2005 sketch
Over the years, lot of famous comedians have hosted the Juno Awards — Howie Mandel, Martin Short, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis and Russell Peters, to name a few. Even the hosts who aren't comedians tend to lean on their sense of humour, whether it's the self-deprecating approach of musicians like Drake and Michael Bublé or Willian Shatner just, well, being himself.
Brent Butt knew this all too well when he was asked to host the 2005 Juno Awards. He kicked off the show that year in a full Kiss outfit, complete with thigh-high platform boots and a double-neck guitar.
"I've always said, when it comes to comedy, dignity is the enemy," he says now. "If they're laughing, I'm happy."
For Butt, it was an opportunity to live out his rock 'n' roll fantasy. "This was all about getting to play rock 'n' roll guitar in front of 13 to 15 thousand people," he says. "It all kind of snowballed from there."
He adds that, after all these years, people still come up to him and mention the Kiss outfit.
"I always tell people that I'm still wearing it."
