With three more weeks to go until the 2024 Juno Awards take place in Halifax, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) has announced more performers for the big night — as well as a new three-day festival.
Alexandra Stréliski, Allison Russell, Aysanabee, Jeremy Dutcher and Elisapie will all perform at the 2024 Juno Awards on March 24, joining previously announced artists the Beaches and Charlotte Cardin, as well as show host Nelly Furtado and Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Maestro Fresh Wes. Stréliski will pay tribute to Karl Tremblay, late lead singer and co-founder of Les Cowboys Fringants, as part of a joint performance with Russell and Aysanabee, who will pay tribute to the late Gordon Lightfoot and Robbie Robertson.
CARAS also announced a brand new, three-day festival called Juno Block Party, presented by the music funding foundation FACTOR. It kicks off in Halifax on Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at the Foundation Place parking lot, next to Waterfront Warehouse at 1549 Lower Water St., and ends on Saturday, March 23.
Thursday night will feature performances by Classified, David Myles, JRDN, O'Sound, City Natives, Joce Reyome, Reeny and Skratch Bastid. Friday night will feature Talk, Good Kid, Dizzy and Maggie Andrew, while the final lineup on Saturday will include James Barker Band, Tyler Joe Miller, Dave Sampson, Sacha and special guests. Doors open at 6 p.m., shows start at 7 p.m. The first night is free, while the second and third nights are ticketed. Get more information via the Juno Awards event page.
Songwriters' Circle, Comedy Fest, more lineups announced
In addition to announcing awards night and Block Party performers, CARAS also detailed the lineups of a few other key Juno Week events. The Juno Songwriters' Circle, taking place at the Light House Arts Centre on Friday, March 22, will feature storytelling and performances by Begonia, Dominique Fils-Aimé, Jeremy Dutcher, Leith Ross, Luna Elle, Matt Andersen, Rêve and William Prince.
The Juno Comedy Show, taking place at Alderney Landing on Friday, March 22, and hosted by Travis Lindsay, will feature performances by Derek Seguin, Graham Clark, Kyle Brownrigg and Laurie Elliott. Stories from the Studio, a conversation with Juno-nominated engineers, producers and special guests, will take place at Halifax Central Library on Thursday, March 21, featuring panellists Hill Kourkoutis, Joel Stouffer, Sam Avant and Wondagurl, and hosted by Damhnait Doyle.
