2023 Juno week events announced, including a new twist on the Juno Songwriters' Circle
Plus more lineups revealed for Junofest, Juno Fan Fare and Juno Stories from the Studio
We're one month away from the 2023 Juno Awards, and Juno week events leading up to the big night have just been announced.
Today, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) revealed its Juno week lineup, including an exciting new twist to the jewel of the week: the Juno Songwriters' Circle. This year the event, presented by SOCAN and FACTOR and taking place at the Winspear Centre on Sunday, March 12, will include two events in one.
First will be a live interview taping for CBC's Q with Tom Power with Junos host Simu Liu. It will be followed by the main event hosted by CBC Music's Damhnait Doyle and featuring two-time Juno winner Dan Mangan, country music duo the Reklaws, contemporary R&B recording-of-the-year nominee Adria Kain, pop artist Tyler Shaw and breakthrough indie band Wild Rivers. As always, it will be an evening of intimate conversations and performances where guests will hear the personal stories and anecdotes behind some of their favourite songs.
This year, CBC Music will again present Junofest, which is three jam-packed nights of concerts showcasing talent of all genres from across the country, ranging from indie all-stars to dynamic jazz ensembles. Hosted at various venues across Edmonton from March 10-12, Junofest will feature performances from more than 50 artists including Cadence Weapon, Cancer Bats, Sloan, Aysanabee, Diggin' Roots, Katie Tupper, Rich Aucoin, Skratch Bastid and more.
Other returning annual events include Juno Fan Fare, which will take place at West Edmonton Mall on Sunday, March 12, where fans can meet this year's Juno-nominated acts including Banx & Ranx, Devon Cole, Preston Pablo, Rêve, Tenille Townes and Tyler Shaw.
The Juno comedy show will be on Friday, March 10, at Rapid Fire Theatre and will host stand-up sets by comedy-of-the-year nominees Courtney Gilmour, Jackie Pirico, Jon Dore, Matt Wright and Zabrina Douglas.
On Monday, March 13, is Juno Stories from the Studio at MacEwan University's Betty Andrews Recital, a panel discussion with Juno Award-nominated engineers and producers. Hosted by Broken Social Scene frontman Kevin Drew, the panel will include Akeel Henry, Derek Hoffman, Gus van Go, Jason Dufour and Mike Wise.
And finally, on Sunday, March 12, the Edmonton Public Library will present the Junior Junos, a special concert series featuring nominees from the children's-album-of-the-year category as well as special guests. Families are invited to clap, sing and dance alongside CBC Kids host Janaye Upshaw, Beppie, Garth Prince, Young Maestro and Keysha Freshh, Splash'NBoots and a virtual appearance by Jeremy & Jazzy.
