Watch Ghostkeeper and Celeigh Cardinal's colourful Road to the Junos performances
The rock band and the singer-songwriter each performed a bold set at 99Ten in Edmonton
To celebrate the 52nd Juno Awards taking place in Edmonton, CBC Music and the Junos 2023 Edmonton Host Committee present Road to the Junos, a concert series spotlighting local musicians in the Alberta capital.
Experimental rock band Ghostkeeper put on an eclectic show, and Juno-winning singer-songwriter Celeigh Cardinal delivered a passionate performance of soulful songs at 99Ten in Edmonton.
"Sarah's been my lifelong collaborator since I even had the notion to be an artist," lead singer Shane Ghostkeeper told CBC Music of his wife and bandmate, Sarah Houle. The couple was in sync onstage with the rest of the group while performing "Rolly," "Grassy Plains" and more psychedelic songs.
Cardinal gave a commanding performance as she belted out her heartfelt songs, opening her set with "Song by the Supermoon," a touching track about the grounding power of home.
"For me, performing is probably my favourite way to connect with people," Cardinal told CBC Music. "There's something about being onstage and being able to authentically express my feelings, and be vulnerable, and it feels safe at the same time."
