Watch Sacha's country cover of Nickelback's 'Gotta be Somebody'
Sacha puts a twangy twist on the band’s anthemic 2009 hit for the second Nickelback session.
Nickelback is this year's Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee, and the rock group will be formally admitted at the 52nd Juno Awards in Edmonton on March 13, 2023.
To celebrate the band's achievement, CBC Music presents Nickelback Sessions, a series of five new and surprising covers of classic Nickelback songs.
For this week's cover, country musician Sacha (who has previously performed on The Intro) puts a twangy spin on Nickelback's "Gotta be Somebody." The song was a hit off the band's 2008 album, Dark Horse, which won the Juno Award for album of the year in 2009. A sentimental rock anthem about finding someone special, the track also landed at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"It's a very 'me' kind of a song," Sacha told CBC Music. "I love the message, I love the energy behind it, so I felt it was just a perfect fit for me to sing."
Her passionate, energetic performance conveys the song's theme of hope, and also features a stunning pedal steel guitar solo. Watch her cover above.
Future videos in CBC Music's Nickelback Sessions will feature covers from DijahSB and Sonus Ensemble.
Simu Liu is back to host the 2023 Juno Awards on Monday, March 13, at 8 p.m ET. Tune in on CBC, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music and CBC Listen, and stream globally on cbcmusic.ca/junos.
