Why Juno and Grammy nominee JP Saxe loves singing duets
'I really believe music is a team sport'
JP Saxe is well acquainted with a successful duet. The Toronto-born pop singer's 2019 hit, "If the World was Ending" featuring Julia Michaels, has been streamed more than one billion times, and it's currently taking the 2021 awards season by storm: it's up for a Grammy on March 14 for song of the year, and just nabbed a Juno nomination for single of the year (Saxe is also up for four other Junos, including breakthrough artist and songwriter of the year).
Saxe's vulnerable songwriting is at the heart of his success, and his latest duet, "Line by Line" with country singer Maren Morris, is another example of his sincere-but-not-too-sweet delivery. (For those who listen to Christmas music year-round, he also did a duet with real-life partner Michaels for this past holiday season.)
We caught up with Saxe the day his five Juno nominations were announced to find out just what draws him to those duets. Watch his full answer above.
