3 times sports teams used Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us' to troll Canadian players
The Drake diss track has crossed over into basketball, soccer and baseball games
Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss track "Not Like Us" has been played heavily since its release in May, going to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching more than 500 million streams on Spotify and securing its place as a strong contender for song of the summer.
The song's reach has also extended to the sports world: former Toronto Raptor DeMar DeRozan made an appearance in the official music video, and more recently, several sports teams have used the song as a celebratory anthem to taunt Canadian athletes.
Here are three sports moments when Canadians had to hear the track.
1. When Team Argentina beat Team Canada at the Copa América semifinal
Drake wagered $300,000 on Team Canada to beat Team Argentina at their Copa América soccer match, but on July 9, the Argentinians won 2-0 and Drake lost the bet. After beating the Canadians, the Argentinian team shared a graphic on X, formerly known as Twitter, writing "Not like us, not with us."
2. When Team U.S.A. beat Team Canada at an Olympic basketball exhibition game
The American men's Olympic basketball team went head to head with Team Canada on July 10, beating them 86-72 in an exhibition game ahead of the 2024 Olympics. As the U.S. team huddled on the court, "Not Like Us" played on the Jumbotron.
3. When a San Francisco Giants player used 'Not Like Us' for his walk-up song
San Francisco Giants player Matt Chapman, a former Toronto Blue Jay, changed his walk-up music to "Not Like Us" back in May. Fans reacted on social media after hearing the track while Chapman played his old team on July 11, although the Canadian team won 5-3.
