After teasing a song called "Blinding Lights" earlier this week via a Mercedes-Benz commercial, the Weeknd has officially released his first new solo music since last year: the break-up song "Heartless."

While the Weeknd, a.k.a. Abel Tesfaye, opens the track with an abrasive line about not needing anyone, the chorus digs a little deeper into what he's thinking: "Tryna be a better man, but I'm heartless/ never be a weddin' plan for the heartless/ low life for life 'cause I'm heartless," he sings.

Tesfaye and model Bella Hadid broke up this past August, after an on-again, off-again relationship that began in 2015. It's not the first time we're seeing Tesfaye work through his break-up so openly through his music: the song "Hurt You," from his 2018 EP My Dear Melancholy, is believed to be about his 2017 break-up with Selena Gomez, with lines like "And now I know relationship's my enemy/ so stay away from me/ I'm warning you." Though it could also be about Hadid.

It's unclear when the Weeknd will release another album, but you can catch him in a small role in the Safdie brothers' crime thriller Uncut Gems coming out in December. He'll also star in a full Mercedes-Benz film, out Nov. 29.
