The Juno Awards are returning to Toronto next May
It will be the 27th time the city has hosted the awards in 51 years
The Juno Awards are coming back to Toronto in May 2022, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced today. The 51st Juno Awards will be live and in-person again, after two years of virtual shows due to the pandemic.
Juno Week is scheduled to kick off on May 9 and end with the award ceremony on May 15 at Budweiser Stage, which will air live across CBC platforms. It will be the 27th time that Canada's largest city has hosted the awards.
Five new categories have been added for next year, including: rap album/EP of the year, rap single of the year, contemporary Indigenous artist or group of the year, traditional Indigenous artist or group of the year and underground dance recording of the year.
Back in March 2020, the awards at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon were cancelled (the first time the show had been cancelled since 1988) and a virtual ceremony took place on June 18.
2021's 50th anniversary edition included performances from pop singer-songwriter JP Saxe, Jessie Reyez, Justin Bieber, Kardinall Offishall, Jully Black and more.
You can tune in to the 51st annual Juno Awards live on May 15, 2022 on CBC-TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music, CBC Listen, globally on cbcmusic.ca/junos and live streamed on CBC Music's TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
