Oscar Peterson's legacy is undeniable. In conjunction with the Royal Canadian Mint's new commemorative coin, a five-part video series called Oscar Peterson: The Legacy, hosted by Lex Garcia, explores the breadth of the famed jazz pianist's influence. Throughout the series, five musicians from Toronto and Montreal invite Garcia into their music-making spaces and share their stories of inspiration. The pianists, bassists, singers, fellow jazz legends and old friends rave about Peterson's virtuosic technique, what they learned from emulating or working alongside him and the lasting mark he left on music worldwide. The series includes interviews with Oliver Jones, Harrison, Taurey Butler, Yama Laurent, Robi Botos and Dave Young.
As Garcia says in the introduction of each episode, the Royal Canadian Mint's commemorative coin "honours Oscar's love of music and is a symbolic standing ovation to a Canadian legend who helped shape the Canada we know and love today."
