The medical examiner is trying to determine how a man, whose body was pulled from the Bow River weir Tuesday morning, died.

A worker cleaning debris from the weir about 10:15 a.m., downstream from the zoo, found the body.

Police say they don't know how long the body had been in the water, how he died, or who he is.

An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday.

Insp. Brooke Bishop says the man who cleans the weir has pulled out two bodies in the 27 years he's been on the job, including the one Tuesday.

"So I don't think it's very common," Bishop said.

The weir is a small dam that diverts water into an irrigation canal. It is considered a dangerous part of the river.
