Four people are dead after a crash between two vehicles on the Brenda Robertson Bridge between Moncton and Riverview on Wednesday night.

Codiac RCMP Sgt. Bruno Labbé said it happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. and involved a car and a tow truck that were "travelling in opposite directions."

The four victims were all in the car, and the driver of the tow truck was not injured.

No information about the victims has been released.

In a news release, Riverview fire Chief Robin True said both vehicles "were fully involved in fire" when crews arrived.

He said 14 firefighters remained on the scene for about five hours.

The bridge was closed until 4:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Labbé, as an accident reconstructionist tried to determine the sequence of events.

Police are asking anyone who has dashcam video or any information about the accident to contact Codiac RCMP as the investigation into the accident continues.
