New murder trial for Baltovich begins this week in Toronto
The second-degree murder trial of Robert Baltovich, accused of killing his girlfriend Elizabeth Bain in 1990, begins this week in Toronto after a 2004 Appeal Court ruling overturned the result of his first trial.
The second-degree murder trial of Robert Baltovich in Toronto is to start Wednesday, a delay of two days over the scheduled start of the case.
Baltovich is accused of killing his girlfriend Elizabeth Bain, a University of Toronto student who disappeared in 1990 while on her way to school.
Her body was never found. Baltovich has always said that he is innocent of Bain's killing.
It will be the second time Baltovich has stood trial on the charge. In 2004, the Appeal Court ordered a new trial.
The reason for the latest delay is not clear.
A jury was selected earlier this month.
The trial is expected to take six to eight weeks and the Crown has indicated it may call as many as 50 witnesses.
