RCMP in Yellowknife want help from the public in solving the suspicious death of a teenager last year.

On Thursday it will be exactly one year since 16 year old Cody Dempster was found unresponsive in a downtown Yellowknife alley.

Until now police had not released Dempster’s name or age. But the public at large knew and were shocked at his death.

From the start the RCMP deemed Dempster's death suspicious.

"We are suspecting foul play in the passing of Cody Dempster,"  said Sgt. Wes Heron.

"Now it's a year later we'd like to reach out to the public. To those individuals who at the time may have had knowledge of the circumstance of Cody's untimely passing," Heron said.

The territory's chief coroner says the office is still assisting the police in the investigation.

Last year an autopsy and toxicology tests were done, but those results won’t be released until the RCMP conclude the investigation.

Today in Yellowknife you'll often see cars drive by with a special decal attached reading "Rest In Peace Cody."
