Artifact building plan irresponsible: Opposition
Planning a new building to house the province's artifacts without consultation is irresponsible, P.E.I.'s Liberals say.
The Conservative government is planning to replace the current repository — a leaky, overcrowded building on the outskirts of Charlottetown —with a $4-million facility, whichIslanders have dubbed the artifactory,in PremierPat Binns'sMurray River riding.
"It's going to his home riding and we're not seeing a business plan," Liberal MLA Carolyn Bertram told CBC News.
"We asked for it or I asked for it fromMinister [of Development and Technology Michael] Currie in the legislature. It was never tabled. All that was tabled in the legislature was a conceptual drawing of this facility. And I think that's a sad statement, and it's a lack of responsibility as well."
Bertram said the proposed building is too important to become a political prize for the Progressive Conservatives to wave around at election time.
