Messy roads Friday morning prompt 1-hour delay for some western P.E.I. schools

Islanders woke up to some slushy road conditions, particularly in the western end of P.E.I., after an overnight snowfall quickly turned to rain by early Friday morning. 

The conditions in Prince County prompted the Public Schools Branch to put the Westisle family of schools on a one-hour delay. 

P.E.I.'s French-language school board also delayed the opening of École Pierre-Chiasson in Deblois by one hour. 

CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin said there's the possibility of a bit more snow in West Prince today until temperatures rise above freezing later in the morning. 

Snow lasted longer in the west

The plow dispatcher for Prince County said roads are sloppy with snow mixed with rain. Overnight snow lasted a little longer in that part of the province, but it has now switched over to rain. 

The dispatcher in Queens County said plows have been able to get standing water off roads, so conditions are good. 

Kings County didn't get the snow the rest of the province did, so roads there are bare with some water. 

Environment Canada no longer has any special weather statements or warnings in effect for P.E.I.
