Peel Regional Police say three suspects broke into a large Mississauga home before an altercation broke out, resulting in one man being fatally shot. CBC’s Chris Glover breaks down what we know about the ongoing investigation.

A man was fatally shot and two other men were injured after three suspects forced their way into a home in Mississauga early Tuesday, Peel police say.

While investigators are still trying to piece together exactly what may have happened, the incident unfolded shortly before 4 a.m. at a residence in the area of Central Parkway and Joan Drive.

According to Const. Mandeep Khatra, three suspects broke into the home and there was an altercation.

"From what we understand so far, a firearm was used, but it's unknown exactly how everything transpired. Our investigators are looking into those details," Khatra told reporters at the scene.

A man in his 50s was shot and eventually pronounced dead at the scene, while two other men were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, he said. All three lived at the residence, he added.

It is believed the three suspects left the area on foot. Khatra did not have any suspect descriptions.

Investigators are still trying to figure out if it was a home invasion and robbery that turned deadly, Khatra said.

Police have obtained residential surveillance video and are appealing to the public for any additional video or information that could help in the case.
