Toronto has declared an extreme cold weather alert, aimed at helping people who live on the streets.

Outreach workers will focus on convincing people to go inside, and provide transportation to shelters or places homeless people can stay overnight.
Environment Canada says the temperature could reach -12 C overnight.
The city will also open 171 additional shelter spaces.
Transit tokens will be made available for people to get to shelters.
People seeking shelter from the cold, or those who know of someone needing shelter, can call city services at 311.
