Russian state media turns on Wagner Group leader after armed rebellion

      • Radio
      • Duration 7:04

The mercenary Wagner Group's leader Yevgeny Prigozhin was portrayed as 'a hero of Russia' before they took up arms against the country on Friday, says Anastasia Edel, a social historian at the OLLI Institute at the University of California, Berkeley, who watches and analyzes Russian state media. Now, she says Prigozhin is being labelled the 'sole provocateur who staged this act of internal war, and who misled his fighters.' She spoke to As It Happens host Nil Köksal about the shifting narrative.
