Brendan Bowles reads his Writers' Trust-winning short story, Wyatt Thurst
Wyatt Thurst is the winner of this year's RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers, which is presented through the Writers' Trust of Canada.
The judges described Brendan Bowles' short story as "so lovingly polished it glows."

For a young writer, the praise doesn't get much better than that.
Bowles is this year's winner of the RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers, which is awarded to unpublished writers under the age of 35. In alternating years, the prize is awarded for poetry or for short fiction.
This year, the $5,000 prize was awarded for exceptional short stories.
